After I attempt this repair, what are the deciding factors which determine how long the unit will work for afterwards? IE more/less thermal paste, more/less time with the heat gun? ( I need a couple of days at least to back up my saves)

2. Where can I get the cleaning compound from to clean the old paste of the heat sinks? And will it be possible to hire a 350C heat gun from a tool hire shop?

3. Any advice to take in to consideration when I do attempt this?

4. When I take it all apart I'd really like to give everything I can a good clean up, what sort of cleaning substances/materials can I/can't I use when cleaning? Any tips on cleaning the parts of dust and dirt?

I feel competent to be able to carry out the job, and wow the videos and PDF are great, I will definately be using both when I go through it all.

Hi, I recently did a ylod repair and after putting it back together, the console would not power up. No red light, no fan noise, non responsive! I took it back apart to make sure I connected all ribbons and connectors to the board, and I saw that i did not plug in the 5 pin connector from power supply to the board. I thought problem solved and put it back together (closely looking and making sure everything was assembled correctly). I went to power on, and nothing, same issue, no lights, no fan noise, acting like its completely dead. I know I grounded the power switch and all connections are good. The power supply does not smell burnt. There were no signs of anything shorting out either, it just simply does nothing when I flip the power switch, no power. Now I am at a loss.

So I have been searching the Web (since I am still new at this) to see what may have been the problem. So far I see people to ask me to check the Power/Eject ribbon. I did and noticed that one end of the ribbon, it looks like the silver pins have broke by getting pinched. I have ordered a replacement. Crossing my fingers

My question is this. Should the red light still be lit on the front panel when power is on, even if ribbon is broke? Or does the whole system completely go dead when the ribbon is broke? It seems i should hear the fan spin or something. But then again, I am still new at this and this is the first time I have come across this problem. Any advice or help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks
